TEMBO (Tanzania)
Vision Statement: to empower the women and girls in Longido District.
Mission Statement: to provide education and micro business support to women and girls in Longido District to achieve their full potential.
Founded in 2007, TEMBO (Tanzania) is a registered Tanzanian NGO governed by a local Board of Directors. The organization employs four local Maasai individuals to coordinate girls’ education programs and a micro business program for women. TEMBO (Tanzania) also oversees the TEMBO Inn, a small business that provides accommodation in Longido village.

Learning in Longido (LiL)
Learning in Longido (LiL) works in partnership with the local Longido District to develop and provide informal education programs for all ages, and manages the Longido District Learning Centre.
Founded in 2016, LiL is governed by a Board of Directors including teachers, community members and business owners. They employ local staff to coordinate programs including five local Maasai women funded through LiL and three certified teachers funded through a formal partnership with Longido District. Together, the staff and Board of Directors direct and coordinate programs in response to community needs.

TEMBO Staff
Learn more about the core TEMBO staff who support our mission across regions.
Paulina is the Executive Director of TEMBO. She joined the team in 2010 after graduating with a B.A. in Sociology with a specialization in community development and rural transformation. Paulina notes that she “loves working with women and girls in empowering them socially and economically”. She spends most of her time at the office receiving various guests who come for help/ support, girls requesting sponsorship and women for micro-finance loans.
Simon is the Accountant and has an MBA in Accounting. He is responsible for maintaining the financial records and reporting on managerial assignments to the Director. At TEMBO, he likes the good leadership, presence of cooperation and coordination spirit among the Board and Management Team.
Mary works at TEMBO as the Community Facilitator. She joined TEMBO in 2007 after completing her Certificate in Secondary Education. She has since taken many professional development courses in community development. Mary likes teaching seminars in the community and working with the children at schools.
Christina works at TEMBO as a Program Support Officer. She joined TEMBO in 2019 after completing a Diploma in Community Development. She likes teaching the women and children, and works hard to prepare material for teaching before going out into the community for outreach programs.
Rosie joined TEMBO as a housekeeper in 2010 when the TEMBO Inn opened. She has over 12 years of experience greeting the staff and guests and keeping the offices and rooms clean. One of her favourite activities is cooking for the guests.
Oyaya joined TEMBO as a security guard in 2008. He is a tremendous support to all of the staff and guests. In addition to his security duties, he makes sure everyone is comfortable while staying at the TEMBO Inn.

My name is Leah Kisambu. I serve as the Executive Director at Learning in Longido (LiL). I have a diploma in community development from Monduli CDTI. What I like most about working at LiL is trust from LiL employers to have the ability to do our organization responsibilities and make them a success. They also support us by giving us suggestions, advice and use of participatory approach and also make resources available which makes our work easy. I spend most of my time in the office making sure all activities are well executed in each program as planned.
My name is Grace Mremi. I have a Certificate in Tailoring and Sewing from the Marangu Kilimanjaro Vocational Training College. I am a tailoring facilitator at the Longido District Learning Centre. I spend time teaching and guiding tailoring students. I like working here because the Centre empowers women, especially Maasai, who are underprivileged for a long time in educational matters and I have an opportunity to be part of this service.
