Girls' Education

Girls’ education is at the heart of TEMBO’s mission.

Secondary School Sponsorship

Supporting our partners who equip young women with the tools, support, and opportunity to reach their full potential and contribute to thriving communities.

In Tanzania, one third of all girls are married by the age of 18, and girls from low-income families face the highest risk of early marriage.

3.2 million children aged 7-17 are out of school, of which 1.2 never attended. (UNICEFnicef, 2025)

Secondary School Sponsorship

As of 2025, TEMBO has sponsored more than 650 girls to attend secondary school.

In 2026 alone, our donors are sponsoring 172 girls to achieve their dream of acquiring a secondary school education.

With your support, TEMBO provides uniforms, textbooks, toiletries, and the essentials, or fully funds a girl’s year of secondary school or vocational training program.

The Power of Girls' Education

“Investing in girls’ education transforms communities, countries, and the entire world.” — UNICEF, 2023.

TEMBO has seen this impact firsthand. Education helps girls delay early marriage, improve family health and income, and become leaders within their communities.

Our 2023 Girls’ Research Study: The Power of Education confirmed what local families have long known — when girls are supported to learn, the benefits extend far beyond the classroom.

Her Story

Meet Sesita

Today, Sesita is in secondary school thanks to the support of our TEMBO donors. Her journey reflects what is possible when girls are given the chance to continue their education.

“When people talk about education, they are happy. When you see someone doing something good, you say ‘education’. When you see someone in a house, you say ‘education’.” – Sesita
